About Ses12naus

Ses12naus is a non-profit organisation founded in 2016 to reinforce Ibiza’s cultural and artistic fabric, and contribute to its development as an international reference for contemporary artistic creation.

Through a program that includes artist residencies, exhibitions, and public programs, Ses12naus aims to ignite social change and expand the cultural identity of the island.

Mission

The foundation aims to promote initiatives led by artists, curators, and thinkers that engage with Ibiza’s cultural, social, and natural context. It nurtures and generates dialogue between public institutions and local cultural agents, and supports artistic research and production through long- term programmes. It also develops public and educational initiatives that connect contemporary art with local audiences.

La Carpintería

Located in Can Bufí, an industrial area on the outskirts of Ibiza, La Carpintería occupies two former warehouse units that once housed a carpentry workshop. Now transformed into an artistic creation centre, it is the foundation’s production and exhibition space, offering artists room to create, while hosting programmes and activities that foster conversation and cultural exchange.

La Finca

Ses12naus is intimately linked to the finca that hosted the early years of the artistic residencies, which is also where the Foundation’s short- and medium-term initiatives are being developed. Situated in the centre of the island, in the municipality of Santa Eulália, the estate covers 30 hectares of flat land, including woodland. It also hosts a permaculture and regenerative agriculture project that includes plantations of fruit trees.

Residencies

Ses12naus develops a site-specific, research-based residency model that could not exist anywhere else. Its programmes, ranging from long-term invitation-based residencies such as Something for an Island to open-call residencies, are conceived as two-way processes: artists benefit from the island’s specific conditions, while critical thinking, experimentation, and public engagement are fostered.

Ángeles Ferragut

President and artistic director

Ángeles, born and raised in Ibiza, shapes the foundation with a global vision rooted in the island. Her experience across cities fuels a project that supports creators, exchange, and sustainable cultural growth.

Simon Southwood

Patron and treasurer

Simon brings over 20 years of experience in finance across South Africa, London, New York and Ibiza. Now based on the island, he supports Ses12naus as a patron, deepening his engagement with the arts.

Ignacio Rosa

Patron and secretary

Ignacio, an experienced lawyer and longtime collaborator, has supported Ses12naus since its founding. As board member and legal advisor, he strengthens the project’s Ibizan roots and its dialogue with the wider art scene.

Cristina de Middel

Advisor

Cristina, an Alicante-born photographer trained in Spain and the US, explores the line between reality and fiction. A former president of Magnum, she has supported Ses12naus from its early stages, contributing ongoing advice and vision.

Ricard Robles

Advisor

Independent professional specialized in the cultural and creative ecosystem.
He supports organizations, cultural companies, and institutions in processes of identity definition and positioning. Founder of the Sónar festival and Co-Director from 1994 to 2025.

Valerio Miragoli

Advisor

Valerio began his career as a gardener in Italian Renaissance gardens over 25 years ago. Throughout his career he has collaborated on projects spanning Japan, the United States, Senegal and various European countries. His studio is currently focused on designing gardens for private residences in the Mediterranean —particularly on the island of Ibiza—, with a strong emphasis on harmonious relationships with the surroundings and on minimising water consumption wherever possible.

Ignacio Santos

Strategy and programming

Ignacio, a cultural manager with over 20 years of experience, plays a key role at Ses12naus, connecting the founders’ vision with its development. He has led arts programmes, venues, and festivals, with a focus on public space and audience engagement.

Elise Lammer

Curator

Elise, a curator based in Switzerland, develops exhibitions, public programmes and educational activities that examine the relationship between space and identity. A PhD candidate, she is researching Derek Jarman's garden and leads sustainability-focused initiatives at a European scale.

Cristina Anglada

Comissària Open Call

Cristina, an independent curator and cultural manager with over 15 years of experience, trained in Art History and Visual Culture in Madrid, works with major institutions and galleries. She has been involved in the preselection of key awards, and is the curator of ARCO Madrid’s Opening section.

Javier Aparicio

Open Call jury

Javier, a curator, and contemporary art researcher is the director of El Chico Gallery. He develops projects with emerging and mid-career artists, focusing on research, production, and critical dialogue.

Alban Le Henry

Something for an Island

Alban Le Henry is a designer trained at ENSCI – Les Ateliers (École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle). After graduating in 2001, he spent several years assisting the Bouroullec brothers, an experience he often describes as his “second school.” In 2007, he established his own design studio in Paris and has since developed a wide-ranging practice spanning exhibition scenography, industrial design, and collectible objects for galleries.

Rodrigo Vargas

Programme and operations

Rodrigo, an arts and culture professional with experience across nonprofits, galleries, and institutions in the US, UK, and Europe, builds sustainable cultural initiatives through partnerships, programme design, and growth strategies.
